Tulsa Ladder Tournament rules

TULSA TABLE TENNIS LADDER RULES

1/1/13

1.       Ladder play is wholly voluntary.

2.       Ladder play will be from 6-9 on Mondays and Thursdays at the Dawson club.

3.       If you want to play a ladder match, sign up on the sheet. Challenge matches will be played in the order of the sign-up.

a.       A challenged player has 15 minutes to accept the challenge and queue for play. If they do not do this, they forfeit the match.

4.       You may initiate as many challenges as you want during an evening, with the following guidelines:

a.       You may challenge either of the next two players above you.

b.      A person need only defend (the higher ranked player) in two challenge matches per night. They can defend in more if they so choose.

c.       Two people can only play each other once in a challenge match per night.

d.      If you challenge above you, and they resolve a challenge match before you play them which moves them to a different position on the ladder, you may still challenge them (or not) when your turn comes (providing of course they have not already defended twice and choose not to defend more that night).

e.     Option:  For the most competitive players, a player can accept a challenge from anyone below them; thus risking their ranking to a much lower ranked player (typical of tournament matches), AND they have to re-start their challenges from the lower ranked player place.

5.       When a challenge match is resolved, write the results on the challenge sheet.

6.       If you win a match against a higher ranked player, you will move your name to that person’s slot, and they will move to yours.

a.       Since the challenge ladder is gravity ruled please keep the ladder flat while you are exchanging names.

7.       Challenge matches should be played on the northernmost 3 tables. The one that has restricted room (to the farthest left as you enter)  can be used if both players agree to do so.

a.       Challenge matches take priority over non-challenge matches. If a non-challenge match is ongoing when there is a queued challenge match, the challengers will notify them of their desire to play a challenge match on that table. The non-challengers will complete that match then let the challenge match have the table.

8.       If a person is not present for play 4 times in a row (Mon/Thu/Mon/Thu), they will automatically drop down one position in rank.

a.       Bob will keep track of absentees by putting stickers on their ladder names.

b.       If a person shows up to be eligible to play a challenge match, stickers will be removed.

c.        If a person drops 1 rank due to being absent, Bob will clear all stickers and start the process over again the next session of play if needed.

Here are the revised rules for the 2013 ladder after a few weeks of play.
The main changes are that challenges can be made only with the two players above and challenge play starts at 6pm instead of 5pm, better for those coming after work.
Also, a player can accept challenges from anyone below them, with greater risks.
